Behind the Ancient Greek Edit

An Ode to Mythology

Long before temples became ruins, they were full. Offerings left at altars, small gold tokens carried close, not as decoration, but as devotion. The Ancient Greeks lived alongside their gods, asking for protection before a voyage, honouring wisdom before a decision was made. Reverence was ritual a daily practice that built world. 

This is the spirit that inspires the Ancient Greek Edit; pieces named for the gods and goddesses who were once thanked, admired and trusted, carried forward in silver and solid gold. Refining this edit was actually quite a challenge, when realising that so much of our jewellery is inspired by these narratives, the symbols, the history. Mythology lies at the core of the inspiration behind Temple's pieces.

The Queen of the Gods

Hera ruled as Zeus's equal, goddess of marriage, family, and the loyalty that holds a household together. The Hera Necklace, in 18k gold vermeil, carries her authority in a form simple enough to wear every day.

Keeper of the Hearth

Every Greek home kept a fire burning for Hestia, goddess of the hearth, and with it, a sense that the household itself was sacred. The Hestia Necklace carries a warm carnelian pendant, a small ember in gold vermeil for the goddess who asked for nothing more than to be tended.

Mother of All

Gaia came before the Olympians, the earth itself, given form and reverence as the origin of everything that followed. The Gaia Ring is cast in gold vermeil, grounded and unadorned, in keeping with a goddess who needed no embellishment to be understood as first.

Wisdom, Struck in Gold

Athena's owl was stamped onto coins across ancient Athens, a symbol of the wisdom she was thanked for daily, in counsel, in war, in the quiet decisions that shaped a life. The Mythos Earrings carry her owl across their coins, in 18k gold vermeil, the same tribute worn close instead of spent. The Mythos Statement Necklace carries the same instinct further, a graduated series of medallions in 18k gold vermeil, each one embossed with its own scene of inspiration, strength and protection, small stories the Ancient Greeks and Romans wore rather than simply told.

God of the Sea

Sailors prayed to Poseidon before every departure, not out of fear alone, but respect for a power that could carry them safely or not at all. The Poseidon Ring carries a hippocamp riding stylised waves across its gold vermeil signet face, an old plea for safe passage, still legible today.

The Guide and the Messenger

Hermes moved between gods and mortals, invoked whenever a traveller needed guidance or a message needed to arrive safely. The Hermes Necklace takes its cascading twin chains from that role, in gold vermeil, while the Heritage Ring Hermes carries his likeness hand-engraved into a 24k solid gold signet, handcrafted in our Istanbul studio, where goldsmiths have practised the same techniques for centuries.

Light Before the Olympians

Leto and Theia belonged to the Titans, the generation that came before Zeus and his siblings, goddesses of motherhood and radiant sight. The Leto Necklace and matching Leto Ring are cast in solid gold with sapphire, a small cosmos held close. The Theia Ring carries the square, an old symbol of stability, in the same solid gold.

Reverence like this doesn't really disappear. It just changes shape, from an offering left at an altar to a piece chosen for what it means and worn until it means even more. Temple of the Sun is built on that same instinct: modern ancient, made in our Istanbul studio, for gods who are still, in their way, being thanked.
